Have a Coffee with Transber and learn more about "The 2026 El Niño Phenomenon: What Mining and Energy Operations Need to Anticipate", a presentation by Tatiana Rojas, Project Manager at Transber, and Juvenal Ponce de León, Hydrographer (Peruvian Navy), Maritime Expert Witness, and M.Sc. in Environmental Management.
This session will provide a technical and operational perspective on the phenomenon: what is happening, what to expect over the coming quarters, and how mining and energy companies can anticipate logistics decisions before road and port infrastructure, as well as river basins, begin to affect operations. The discussion comes in response to the National Multisectoral Committee for the Study of the El Niño Phenomenon (ENFEN) confirming an active Coastal El Niño 2026 alert, projected to continue through February 2027, with the possibility of coinciding with a moderate Global El Niño event.
Topics to be covered:
- Understanding the El Niño Phenomenon: What El Niño is, why it occurs, the differences between Global El Niño and Coastal El Niño, how alerts are declared in Peru, and the current outlook according to ENFEN, including projected intensity and risk scenarios through February 2027.
- Impact on Mining and Energy Supply Chains: Potential effects on road infrastructure, port operations, river basins, and ravines in operational areas.
- Proactive Planning Strategies: How to make operational decisions in advance and reduce exposure to risk before the phenomenon disrupts business operations.
