Camosun College: Your gateway to the best universities in Canada
Camosun College is one of Canada’s top institutions, especially appealing to international students due to its focus on practical education. In this interview, we speak with Antonio Rivadeneira, Recruitment Manager for Camosun College in Latin America, who explains why Camosun is one of the top five public colleges in Canada with the highest number of Peruvian students, and the number one in the province of British Columbia.
1. What are the most popular programs among Peruvian students at Camosun College, and why do you think these programs attract more students?
The most popular programs among Peruvian students tend to be in Engineering, Business, and Sciences. This is due to the high demand for professionals in these areas in Peru, as well as the opportunities for transfer to prestigious universities like UBC or UVic. Additionally, Camosun’s high educational quality and practical approach attract students seeking an international education with excellent job prospects.
2. How do Camosun College’s university transfer programs differ from other higher education options in Canada?
Camosun stands out for its university transfer program, which allows students to complete their first years at a lower cost before transferring to universities like UVic or UBC. British Columbia is the only province in Canada with a direct transfer program, the "BC Transfer Guide," which ensures that credits are easily transferable. Furthermore, colleges accept Peruvian students with 11 years of education, something universities do not, which makes the transition to larger institutions even smoother. This option provides a more accessible and affordable way to begin university studies in Canada.
3. What support does Camosun College offer international students, specifically from Peru, to help them adapt both academically and culturally?
Camosun College offers a wide range of support services, such as academic advising, cultural orientation, and workshops to improve study skills. International students also have access to free tutoring and social activities that foster integration with other students, in addition to receiving personal support through the International Student Centre. These initiatives ensure that Peruvian students feel welcomed and well-prepared to navigate the Canadian academic environment.
4. What advantages does the city of Victoria offer international students in terms of quality of life, extracurricular activities, and job opportunities?
Victoria, named the most beautiful small city in the world for the second year in a row by several travel magazines, is safe, peaceful, and welcoming. It offers a high quality of life with access to nature, beaches, and parks, providing a healthy balance between study and recreation. Victoria also has the mildest winter in Canada, making it attractive to those seeking a pleasant climate. Additionally, the city offers numerous extracurricular activities, such as sports and social clubs, and there is growing demand for professionals in sectors like technology, tourism, and healthcare, which creates excellent job opportunities for students after graduation.
