Confipetrol Andina: Leading the future of mining management with innovation and sustainability

We had the opportunity to interview Miguel Alejandro Sánchez Novoa, an outstanding professional with over 14 years of experience in the mining sector, eight of which have been dedicated to Confipetrol. A mechanical engineer who graduated from the National University of Trujillo, Miguel has complemented his education with a specialization in Project Management and an MBA. He also holds the CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional) certification, underscoring his commitment to excellence in maintenance and reliability.

His career has taken him through various roles, from supervisor to Business Area Manager, where he currently leads mining units and coordinates teams to maximize operational efficiency and maintain high safety standards. During the interview, Miguel provided insights into the challenges the mining industry has faced from his experience with Confipetrol, the solutions the company offers to its clients, and the milestones that have marked its evolution. He also shared recent success stories and discussed the company's future expansion plans, both locally and internationally.

1. What are the main solutions that Confipetrol provides to the mining sector? Are you an exclusive or authorized representative of any brand?

At Confipetrol, we offer comprehensive operation and maintenance solutions for the mining sector, applying world-class reliability techniques and international standards such as PAS 55 Asset Management.

We specialize in predictive diagnostics with advanced technology, focusing on maximizing the efficiency and safety of our clients' operations. We collaborate with various brands and technologies, but we are not exclusive representatives of any, allowing us to offer customized and objective solutions.

2. When and where did Confipetrol begin its operations? What challenges have you faced since its inception?

Confipetrol started operations in Colombia over 25 years ago, and around eight years ago, we expanded our presence to Peru, establishing ourselves as a multinational company that provides comprehensive solutions for the extractive sector, including mining, energy, and hydrocarbons.

From the beginning, we have faced key challenges that have been crucial to our growth and consolidation in the industry. These include our ability to adapt to constantly evolving markets, the need to stay at the forefront of technological innovation, and the increasing demands of sustainability and safety regulations.

3. Which mining companies have you worked with? Could you share a success story or a flagship project?

Throughout our journey, we have worked with some of the most renowned mining companies in Peru, such as Newmont, Nexa, Antamina, Anglo American, Gold Fields, Las Bambas, Chinalco, Raura, Minsur, Marsa, among others. These strategic partners have trusted us to optimize their operations and maintain high standards of efficiency and safety.

A notable success story is in our IMC (Maintenance and Reliability Engineering) support area, where we have implemented advanced predictive techniques such as ODS (Operating Deflection Shape), 3D scanning, dynamic analysis of electric motors, acoustic ultrasound, among others. This focus on technology has allowed us to develop innovative solutions to recurring problems faced by our clients, significantly adding value to their operations, reducing costs, and improving performance.

4. What initiatives and practices has Confipetrol implemented to promote the sustainability of your company and its surroundings?

At Confipetrol, sustainability is a fundamental pillar that guides all of our actions. We have obtained ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), ISO 45001 (safety), and ISO 50001 (energy management) certifications, which validate our commitment to continuous improvement and the implementation of responsible practices in every area of operation.

A key aspect of our strategy is prioritizing local purchases, thereby strengthening the regional economy and fostering joint development with the communities in which we operate, establishing long-term collaborative relationships.
