INNOVATION AND TALENT WILL DEFINE PERU’S MINING FUTURE
Peruvian mining is at a decisive moment. The need to develop new projects, improve productivity, and respond to increasingly demanding safety and sustainability requirements is compelling the industry to accelerate its technological transformation. Based on my experience in the industry, I believe the challenge lies not only in adopting new tools, but also in developing the capabilities needed to use them efficiently.
Mining exploration is moving toward deeper and more complex operations. This requires teams with greater capabilities, automation, and systems that can reduce workers’ exposure to risky situations. Technology applied to drilling, for example, can significantly improve operational times and safety, while also providing more accurate information about mineral deposits.
However, innovation must go hand in hand with training. The growth of exploration activities is generating increasing demand for professionals and technicians specialized in the operation of cutting-edge equipment and technologies. At this point, I believe it is essential to strengthen collaboration among companies, universities, and technical training institutions to close the talent gaps facing the industry.
Canada and other developed mining markets offer important benchmarks in this regard. Technology adoption, specialized training, and applied research are part of ecosystems that enable innovation to have a tangible impact on productivity. Peru has highly competitive professionals, but we need to continue developing these capabilities to keep pace with the leading players in the global mining industry.
Another fundamental aspect is sustainability. More efficient operations can help optimize energy consumption, reduce operating times, and make better use of resources. In addition, new technologies will enable the development of systems capable of analyzing geological information during the drilling process, facilitating faster and more accurate decision-making during exploration.
Peru’s potential remains enormous. A significant portion of the country’s territory remains unexplored, and therefore, technological development can play a decisive role in identifying new resources and projects.
The future of our mining industry will depend on our ability to combine investment, innovation, and knowledge. More than a trend, technological transformation should be understood as a necessary condition for building a more competitive, safe, and sustainable Peruvian mining industry.
