Innovations in Structural Engineering: Insights from Triodetic's V.P. of operations

Luis Gattorno, Vice President of Operations at Triodetic, leads the company's innovation in custom-engineered structures. With over 15 years of experience, Luis drives Triodetic’s leadership in sustainable engineering solutions across various industries, including mining and industrial applications.

1. What is the main advantage of Triodetic?
Luis Gattorno highlights that Triodetic's main advantage is its ability to deliver significant cost savings in both CAPEX and OPEX. Triodetic's single-layer structure (with efficient installation) and superior rust protection (no maintenance needed) on structural members reduce costs by over 35%. The efficiency and lowest cost of Triodetic’s domes in the market (supply + installation) translate into a quicker return on investment, making them ideal for challenging global projects. Their domes can be installed in operating mines without interfering with operations, addressing a significant challenge for existing mines worldwide. Triodetic domes effectively eliminate dust pollution, meeting clients' needs for sustainable mining.

2. In which countries and sizes can Triodetic domes be designed?
Luis explains that Triodetic’s domes are versatile and can be deployed anywhere globally, regardless of the terrain and site conditions. The installation of Triodetic domes also creates job opportunities in the area where the dome is located. Their structures are designed to adapt to diverse geographic and environmental conditions, making Triodetic domes suitable for any location, from arid deserts to subarctic regions, ensuring stability and durability. He mentioned that dome sizes larger than 140 meters in diameter were a challenge some years ago, but not anymore. Throughout the interview, it was explained that Triodetic's latest developments in the design of these massive domes have overcome size and free-form challenges, and his engineering team is always looking for new structural challenges.

3. Can you tell us about the maintenance required for Triodetic structures?
Luis points out that Triodetic structures are engineered to require minimal maintenance, with no need for regular cleaning. The carbon steel pipes used in Triodetic domes are protected against corrosion with a three-layer system (a galvanizing layer and two additional layers), ensuring longevity even in harsh conditions. This advanced protection allows clients to focus on operations without the need for constant upkeep. He assured us that Triodetic is the only dome supplier globally that offers such superior corrosion protection. Luis Gattorno also mentioned that Triodetic is the only supplier worldwide that designs and manufactures stainless steel domes for highly corrosive environments, such as potash operations.

4. How does Triodetic help with dust control in mining and industrial environments?
Luis Gattorno explains that it is unfortunate that environmental authorities in some countries still allow mines to operate while polluting the air that workers and surrounding communities breathe year-round. Environmental regulations are becoming more rigorous globally, and covering stockpiles to control dust pollution is now an obligation due to environmental responsibility. Triodetic’s dome structures provide superior dust control in mining and industrial environments. By fully enclosing stockpiles and materials, these domes prevent dust from spreading, maintain a clean environment, and protect the health of workers and nearby communities. Triodetic’s innovative designs also ensure proper ventilation while containing dust, creating safer and cleaner sites.
